Speculative women's fiction with a splash of fabulism
Phoebe has never left her hometown, isolated deep at the Missouri River bottom and surrounded by miles of prairie. She longs to leave the loneliness of rural life and escape the shadow of a strict religious upbringing led by her father, the town's Baptist minister. But with freedom on the horizon she's suddenly thrust into the life of a kept woman, shattered by a moment of betrayal that she can never take back. As the decades pass Phoebe sinks into a deep depression as she comes to terms with the fact that her life was never her own. But one split-second decision will change everything, giving her back the life she longs for, the friendship she never had, and the freedom she's never known. But for how long?
